A momentous day, and just in time for the last of the winter cold! The fireplaces in the formal Dining Room and Library - both original coal registers which have not been used since the 1920s, with chimneys capped, are today lit for the first time in almost 100 years! Obviously we weren't interested in burning coal for heat, so a gas conversion was the way to bring them both back to life. We used Magiglo gas conversion kits, which meant that there was no need to replace any of the original fireplace components - the burners are slipped under the existing coal grate which is then filled with man-made 'coals'. And we're very pleased that they are providing heat as well as a romantic ambiance to these gorgeous rooms...the perfect finishing touches to two very striking spaces.
