Reno recap, week #15.

With the tiling completed throughout, our joiner Don had a busy few days, installing the new cabinetry in the butlers’ pantry as well as the laundry room joinery. Alan’s team have commenced all interior trim details throughout the new build – skirting boards, window and door trims and architraves.

A total of four skylights have been installed, with three bringing lots of light into the new kitchen extension. The fourth skylight is located in the butlers’ pantry, which had lost a window with the addition of the new extension.

In the last of the three guestroom bathrooms to be tackled, new plumbing penetrations were placed, the new slab was poured and allowed to set over the course of a few days. In quick succession, the waterproof membrane, underfloor heating, floor screed and tiling were completed. All tapware has now been installed in the mudroom bathroom and shower and guest bathrooms.

Our stonemason dropped in to check measure for the ledges in all three en suite bathrooms as well as for the butlers’ pantry, kitchen island and appliance cupboard bench tops.

We’ve decided on the interior colour for the new build – ‘Alpaca White’ from Taubmans, a warm white which complements the exposed truss beam woodwork as well as the new floor tiles. It has a moderate LRV or Light Reflectance Value, which means the colour is not prone to excessive glare.

The first batch of decomposed granite for the new veranda pathway was delivered and placed…we’ll have it compressed in the next week or two before repeating application of another two tonnes of granite.

We had our final onsite meeting with the pool construction company and excavation works should commence in the coming fortnight. We’re on a promise to be splashing around come the Christmas holidays (weather permitting!).
