Covid-19/Coronavirus Update

October 31, 2020

As per advice from the NSW Government, we have developed a COVID-19 Safety Plan specific to Terragong

designed to create and maintain a safe environment for our guests, our suppliers and ourselves.

We will update the plan as restrictions and official government advice changes, and ask that you take a

few minutes to read through the information prior to your arrival at Terragong, so that you are familiar with

the steps we have taken.

We have also registered with the NSW Government and received COVID-19 Safe Business accreditation.

You can find further information on the COVID-19 Safe Business program on the NSW Government website.

Following the government's advice yesterday to cancel non-essential travel, we've made the call to close to guests for the time being. Hotels haven’t been included in today's shut-down of non-essential services, but we’re not a hotel.

The very nature of what we offer guests, what makes a stay at Terragong a highly personalised experience (wine service in the afternoon, breakfasts in the farmhouse kitchen, relaxed country house vibe, sharing our home with ‘friends we’ve yet to meet’, true hospitality) makes it difficult for us to ensure adherence to social distancing measures. For us, Terragong is all about socialising and bringing people together. But safety first.

As we waved goodbye to our guests yesterday it was with a heavy heart; not being able to offer farewell hugs and handshakes felt alien, although we understand the need not to (luckily Daisy the rescue pup - GM, Meet & Greet - was able to sneak in a few final licks of farewell on our behalf).

We’ve now contacted all guests and asked them to postpone their visit with us until the time comes when it is safe to do so. We never imagined we’d be in the position of asking guests who have booked – with whom we were looking forward to sharing our beautiful Terragong – not to come; it feels so wrong, but we realise how necessary it is. Of course no guests means we won’t be recommending local restaurants or sight-seeing opportunities for a while, nor purchasing our usual supplies…the knock-on effects are huge.

While we can’t offer a takeaway option, our gift certificates remain available to purchase on our website (with a discount on a two-night stay certificate, the perfect gift with which to celebrate an end to the crisis), which we hope will provide some income as we sit staring at a very empty diary. We also look forward to hearing from wedding couples in search of the perfect place to celebrate their nuptials with friends and family, when it's again safe to do so.

Stay happy and healthy over the coming months. Know that when the time comes to escape to the country, we'll be waiting to welcome you with big smiles, an even bigger glass of bubbles - and Daisy with her licks!

The current situation with the Covid-19/Coronavirus pandemic is fluid, and shifting circumstances continue to impact people’s travel and holiday, meeting and event plans; at time of writing, Terragong 1858 Bed & Breakfast has not been impacted.

We want to welcome everyone to Terragong with the reassurance that we have your health in mind.  We are monitoring the Covid-19/Coronavirus situation carefully and we continue to adhere to and are following current government advice about Covid-19/Coronavirus; when changes to government recommendations are made, we will review and respond to their instructions promptly.

Please be sure to check back regularly, as any required updates or changes to our policies will be shared here.

Amended Booking Cancellation/Deferment Policy

Our existing booking cancellation/refund policy remains unchanged, but we have added flexibility in regards to the need to make changes within the usual 30-day non-refund period in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, as follows:

In consideration of the health and well-being of others, we expect that prior to a planned arrival any guest

who feels unwell/ill or is under advice to self-isolate will contact us to arrange a postponement of their stay.

We will happily credit any funds paid towards the cost of a stay at a later date (up to March 31, 2021).

For all existing B&B and event bookings made direct with us via the Terragong website or via phone:
In the event that you do need to postpone your stay - either owing to illness or to updated government advice in regards to travel and/or social distancing/isolation restrictions - we will be happy to move your reservation to a later date (up to March 31, 2021, subject to date availability) at no additional cost.

For all bookings made via a third party/OTA (e.g. Expedia or and their sub-brands):
Please check the policy of the OTA in regards to cancellations/date changes. We will adhere to these; guests may find that the OTA in question imposes a cancellation or reservation amendment fee.

Should local, state or federal government enforce hotel/accommodation closures:
We will contact all guests with the offer to move their stay to a later date.  We will follow the advice of industry body Hosted Accommodation Australia in regards to cancellation/refunds.

Should either of your hosts (Simon and Darryl) become unwell and need to self-isolate, leading to the temporary closure of Terragong:
All guests booked for the ensuing two months will be contacted and offered either a cancellation of booking with full refund, or the option to change your booking to a later date (up to March 31, 2021).

Our first and overriding concern is for the well-being and safety of our guests.
We follow stringent guidelines in regards to general hygiene, food handling and housekeeping/cleaning and will continue to do so.

  • All guest linens (sheets, towels, blankets, underlays, table linens/napery) are washed onsite in hot water and line-dried in the sunshine.

  • All crockery, cutlery and glassware is machine washed, ensuring wash reaches temperatures required for killing of germs

  • All ‘high-touch’ surfaces such as table tops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, bedside tables, lamp switches, etc are cleaned daily with disinfectant

  • Guest ensuites are cleaned using disinfectant sprays, wipes and steam-mopping

  • We have taken the additional step of ensuring no back-to-back occupancy of our three guestrooms, so that the same room is not used by different guests on consecutive nights, allowing for in-depth sanitising and airing of the rooms.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if we can be of assistance.

Yours sincerely and in continuing good health,
Your hosts Simon & Darryl (& Daisy the rescue puppy – GM, Meet & Greet)
